WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Former Northwestern University golfers Jess Daley (Kent, Wash.) and Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England) earned their PGA Tour cards today after finishing among the top 35 golfers at the PGA Tour National Qualifying School. The event was held at the par-72 Bear Lakes Country Club.
Daley finished in a 13th-place tie and shot below par all six days (71-69-68-71-65-67=411). He fired his two lowest rounds, 65 and 67, in the final two days to finish at 21-under-par. Daley totaled one eagle, 30 birdies, 66 pars and 11 bogeys throughout the six-day qualifying tournament.
Donald also completed all six rounds under par and finished 18-under (71-71-65-68-70-69=414). His best round came on Friday when he fired a 7-under-par 65. Donald, a four-time All-American at Northwestern, finished with 24 birdies and just six bogeys in 108 rounds of golf.
"It was the most pressure-filled situation I've ever faced," said Donald, the 1999 NCAA Division I national champion.
Daley and Donald have played key roles in Northwestern's recent golf success. Donald was a member of the Wildcats' three Big Ten championship teams (1999, 2000 and 2001), while Daley was a team member in 1999 and 2000.
