EVANSTON, ILL. - Northwestern golfers Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) and Jess Daley (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) were named first-team All-Americans by both Golfweek magazine and the All-American Golf Foundation.
This marks the first time in school history that two golfers have been awarded first-team honors in the same year. Donald finished the year with a 70.48 stroke average while Daley completed his senior year with a 70.98 stroke average. The two combined to win six individual tournaments and led the Wildcats to their second Big Ten title in as many years.
Donald, a three-time All-America, finished the season as the top-ranked men's individual in the final 1999-2000 edition of the MasterCard Rankings. Donald, who was also named the Rolex College Golfer of the Month in September, has held the top spot in the rankings the past seven weeks as well as the entire fall portion of the season. After finishing the NCAA Championships in a tie for third place, Daley finished the season ranked third making a steady climb from 18th where he started the season.
The Northwestern men's golf team was ranked fifth in the country in the final poll and has finished in the top 10 in three of the last four NCAA Championships (7th/1997, 3rd/1999, 8th/2000).
