Northwestern Men?s Golf Wins Ping/Golfweek Preview Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men?s golf team overcame a three stroke deficit on the final day of play to win the Ping/Golfweek Preview Invitational. Junior Luke Donald took first-place honors finishing 8-under for the tournament with rounds of 68, 73 and 67. Senior Jess Daley finished in second place shooting 7-under for the tournament with a final round 69. Senior David Shaffer and freshman Scott Harrington both finished at four-over for the tournament.
In team scoring Northwestern finished with a score of 848, 16-under par. After leading the first two rounds Clemson University finished second at 8-under. Arizona State finished third at 1-under par while Georgia Tech finished at even par.
Northwestern came into the tournament ranked No. 14 by Golfweek and ran away with the championship. Falling three strokes behind after round two the ?Cats went on an 11 stroke swing to win the championship by eight strokes over top ranked Clemson.
The tournament was hosted by Auburn University and was held at Grand National Lake Golf Course in Opelika, Ala. The par 72, 6,978-yard course will be the site of the NCAA Men?s Golf Championships next June.
