EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior men's golfer Erik Ciotti will be part of the 156-player field for the 99th U.S. Open Men's Golf Championship, to be played June 17-20 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C. This marks Ciottis first time playing in the U.S. Open.
It has been quite a week for Ciotti. On Sat., June 5, he closed his Wildcat career with a 16th place showing at the NCAA Championships in helping NU to a third-place team finish. On Mon., June 7, he qualified for the Open, shooting par on the first sudden death playoff hole at Oak Park Country Club in Oak Park, Ill. On Wed., June 9, Ciotti's birdie on the 18th hole led his Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) team to a victory against the Illinois PGA team in the annual Radix Cup. The win broke the IPGA's eight-year unbeaten streak in that event.
In the opening two rounds of the U.S. Open, Ciotti will be paired with Gary Hallberg of Castle Rock, Colo., and Esteban Toledo of Irvine, Calif. The trio will tee off at 2:20 p.m. EDT on Thursday and 10 a.m. EDT on Friday. The top 60 golfers, or anyone within 10 strokes of the leader after 36 holes, will advance to play in the final two rounds. Official results and tournament information can be found on the internet at www.usopen.com.
