Men's Golfer Luke Donald Wins The Nelson

STANFORD, Calif. - Wildcat sophomore Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) fired a final round 67 to win Stanford's The Nelson tournament last weekend at the Stanford Golf Course. Donald posted rounds of 67-71-67 for a total of eight-under-par 205. Stanford All-American Joel Kribel finished one stroke behind Donald at 206 (67-72-67).
This marked the first career tournament win for Donald, who had taken runner-up honors in his last three tournaments. Donald entered the tournament with a stroke average of 70.18, third-lowest in Division I men's golf. With his tournament victory, Donald concluded the fall with a stroke average of 69.79. Thirteen of his 14 rounds this fall were shot either at or below par.
Junior Jess Daley (Kent, Wash./Kentwood), who posted a school-record 64 in round one, tied for 16th at four-over-par 217 (64-79-74). Other Wildcat finishes were Josh Habig (t51st, 75-76-73=224), Erik Ciotti (t62nd, 77-78-72=227) and Danny Riskam (t77th, 79-78-76=233).
The 'Cats, ranked 11th nationally, finished tied with Colorado for fifth place at 872 (283-303-286). Colorado State won the tournament at 860 followed by Nebraska (864), North Carolina State (866) and Stanford (871). NU concluded its fall slate by placing in the top five in all five of its tournaments, including three runner-up finishes.
