Men's Golf Leads The Nelson After Round One

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Jess Daley (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) fired a seven-under-par 64 to help 11th-ranked Northwestern take a first-round lead at The Nelson, being held at the Stanford Golf Course.

Daley's 64, which included a 31 on the front nine, sets a Northwestern record. The previous single-round low of 65 was set by former All-American Scott Rowe at the 1995 Kent Invitational.

The Wildcats as a team posted a score of one-under-par 283, sharing the opening-round lead with Colorado State. Nebraska and Arkansas are tied for third place at 286 with North Carolina State in fifth place at 287. Sophomore Luke Donald, who ranks third among all Division I golfers with a 70.2 per round stroke average, is in a three-way tie for second place at four-under-par 67.

Donald is tied with Nebraska's Jamie Rogers and Stanford's Joel Kribel. NU's complete scores from Friday were:
