EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern sophomore men's golfer Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England) has earned one of eight spots on the Great Britain/Ireland team for the 1999 Palmer Cup. This marks the second-straight season that Donald has been named to the Palmer Cup squad.

The competition, played in a format similar to the Ryder Cup, pits the top collegiate golfers from the United States against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland. The 1999 Palmer Cup will be held June 12-13 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. The course, located in a suburb of Chattanooga, also hosted the 1996 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.

Donald is currently ranked No. 2 in the country with a stroke average of 70.23. He has won three-straight tournaments and four of his last five events. He captured Stanford's The Nelson on Nov. 1, followed by his current run of three-straight tournament titles at the Aldila Collegiate Classic (March 8-9), Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate Championships (March 27-28) and the Kepler Intercollegiate Championships (April 17-18).

Northwestern, ranked 13th in the latest Mastercard rankings and 14th by Golfstat and Golfweek, compete this weekend in the Wolverine Invitational, scheduled for May 8-9 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
