Men's Golf Places Third at Duke Golf Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's golf team ? second in the most recent Rolex Collegiate Golf national rankings ? tied with Florida Southern College for third place out of 18 teams at the Duke Golf Classic, hosted by the Blue Devils at the Duke Golf Club Sunday and Monday.
The Wildcats shot 294-300=594 over the 36-hole tournament, while Florida Southern shot 296-298=594. That put both teams at 18-over par for the event, eight strokes off the 291-295=586 carded by the host school, Duke. Augusta State University was second at 13-over par (299-290=589). Georgia Tech was fifth at 298-299=597.
Junior Luke Donald, the defending NCAA champion, failed to win medalist honors for the first time in three college events this fall. The Englishman tied Duke's Matt Krauss and Augusta State's Jamie Elson for sixth overall with 72-73=145, a 1-over par total on the par-72 course. The winner was Wayne Raath of Florida Southern, who carded 70-71=141.
Dan Riskam also earned a Top 10 finish, tying for ninth overall with a 74-72=146 (+2). Josh Habig tied with several players for 19th overall with 73-77=150 (+6), while Jess Daley carded 75-79=154 (+10). David Shaffer (80-78=158, +14) rounded out the Wildcat contingent.
