MISSION & VISION

Northwestern Sports Medicine is committed to comprehensive concussion management through a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and patient-centered model. This approach incorporates purposeful yearly preseason education, thorough pre-participation baseline testing, timely post-injury evaluation, individualized rehabilitation, and return-to-learn and return-to-play protocols consistent with NCAA requirements and current evidence-based and consensus models.

Highlights of this approach include open communication between sports medicine, academic services, and student-athletes’ faculty members to coordinate appropriate return-to-learn planning; as well as, a targeted post-injury exam aimed at developing an active recovery plan that incorporates cardiovascular, vestibular, visual, cervicogenic, and other therapeutic approaches. Further, an independent neurological consultant is utilized on all concussion cases prior to final clearance for return from Northwestern Sports Medicine.

Policies, procedures, and outcomes are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, congruence to the best available evidence, and optimization of patient outcomes.
