EVANSTON, Ill. - After kicking off the 2026-27 season with a sweep over Miami (OH), the Northwestern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Bloomington for a heavyweight tri-meet clash with Indiana and Texas.Â
The matchup against the Hoosiers and Longhorns, both ranked in the top-10 on the men’s and women’s side of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Top 25, will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. CT.
On Oct. 3, the Wildcats won 23 of 32 contested events against the RedHawks, including a sweep of all four diving events and all six relays. The women posted a score of 230-87, while the men won 187-130. Swimmers Flawia Kamzol, Zoe Nordmann and Margaret Papanicholas, as well as divers Kyle Ly and Chloe Sharpe, each won multiple individual events.
Northwestern last faced Indiana in a dual or tri-meet setting on Oct. 16, 2021, when the Hoosiers won on both the men’s and women’s side. The Wildcats have not competed against the Longhorns in a dual or tri-meet setting yet, but raced in Austin at the Texas Hall of Fame Invite in 2025.
Scouting the Longhorns, Hoosiers
Texas and Indiana are the top two teams in the men’s CSCAA poll. The Longhorns are the reigning back-to-back NCAA Champions, while the Hoosiers have won the last five Big Ten championships while placing third at NCAAs in 2026.
The Longhorns are led by senior Rex Maurer, the reigning NCAA champion in the 400 Individual Medley. Following the graduation of three-time 2026 NCAA champion Hubert Kos (older brother of Northwestern junior Oli Kos), Maurer is the Longhorns’ only returning individual national champion.Â
Meanwhile, the Hoosiers are led by sophomore Josh Bey, the team’s leading scorer at both the Big Ten and NCAA Championships. He is the defending Big Ten Champion in the 400 IM and 200 Breaststroke and finished second in the latter event at NCAAs. IU won 10 total events at last year’s Big Tens.
The No. 3 Texas women finished third at the 2026 NCAA Championships and are the defending back-to-back SEC Champions. Headlining their roster is junior Jillian Cox, who won the NCAA title in the 1650 Freestyle and placed second in the 500 Free. Senior Campbell Stoll is the reigning NCAA Champion in the 200 Butterfly.
Powered by a breakout performance from then first-year Liberty Clark, the No. 5 Indiana women placed seventh at 2026 NCAA Champions. Clark was the team’s leading scorer with a runner-up finish in the 200 Free, while 2024 U.S. Paris Olympian Alex Shackell also contributed a runner-up finish in the 200 Fly behind Stoll.Â
The Hoosiers finished in second place behind Michigan at the 2026 Big Ten Championships, where Clark and Shackell both won individual titles.
Northwestern Athletes to Watch
NU senior Stuart Seymour will be competitive with Texas and Indiana’s top returners in the 100 Backstroke and 100 Fly. Seymour’s best 100 Back time of 44.55 is just 0.15 seconds slower than that of Indiana sophomore Mira Knedla, while his top 100 Fly time of 44.66 is 0.09 seconds faster than Texas junior Kyle Peck.
Junior Joshua Staples was Northwestern’s only ‘A’ finalist at the 2026 NCAA Championships, where he placed eighth in the 400 IM. He raced in the same final as Maurer and Bey, with the latter finishing just one spot above the Wildcat.
Two of Northwestern’s top female swimmers could go up against Indiana and Texas’s best swimmers in their primary events.Â
Nordmann, who finished sixth in the 1650 free at Big Tens last year, may race against Texas’s Cox in the distance freestyle events. Senior Sydney Smith, NU’s top returning performer in the 200 Free, competed in the same field as Clark at Big Tens last year and placed 10th.
