Northwestern Closes out Road Trip at Maryland

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern closes out its three-game road swing at Maryland on Sunday. Kickoff from Ludwig Field is set for 11 a.m. CT on B1G+.

Last time out, Northwestern’s (5-6-3, 3-3-1 Big Ten) bid for an equalizer came up just short in a 3-2 setback at Rutgers. After the Scarlet Knights jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, Northwestern clawed back to trim the deficit to one twice, but couldn’t net the equalizer.

First-year defender/midfielder Gwen Zimmerman recorded her first career goal at Rutgers, assisted by senior forward Megan Norkett. Norkett’s assist is her third of the season and the eighth of her career.

First-year forward Camryn Freeman tallied her third goal in three games in Piscataway, assisted by senior midfielder Holland Carey and junior forward Alex Fallon. Freeman’s three goals are the most by a Wildcat first-year since Kennedy Roesch tallied six in 2024.

NU has had 12 goals and 15 assists so far on the 2026 season, coming from 14 different players. Freeman leads all ‘Cats in goals with three, while Norkett paces NU with three assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson collected her fifth shutout of the season and 15th of her career in NU’s 2-0 win over Indiana on Sunday, Sep. 27. Her 15 career shutouts rank fourth in program history and are the second-most by a Wildcat underclassman, trailing only Lauren Clem’s 20.

Northwestern is 4-1-3 all-time against Maryland. The Wildcats are unbeaten in their last three matches against the Terps. NU is seeking its first win in College Park since a 4-1 victory on Sep. 25, 2016.

The Terrapins (3-8-2, 0-6-1 Big Ten) are led offensively by redshirt sophomore forward Jolie Farmer with four goals and one assist. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Faith Luckey has posted a .721 save percentage to go with a 1.80 goals against average.

The ‘Cats return home on Saturday, Oct. 17, hosting USC for Senior Day. Kickoff from Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
