COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Northwestern fell 2-1 in the final game of its East Coast road trip on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Maryland.
Maryland (4-8-2, 1-6-1 Big Ten) opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the match with sophomore midfielder Lilly Bane netting the first goal, assisted by redshirt sophomore forward Jolie Farmer.
The Terps doubled their lead in the 58th minute. A Maryland corner kick was cleared to senior forward/midfielder Lisa McIntyre, who curled her volley into the top corner of the net to make it 2-0.
Senior midfielder Holland Carey put the Wildcats (5-7-3, 3-4-1 Big Ten) on the board in the 69th minute with a rocket from distance to halve the deficit. Junior forward Alex Fallon notched an assist on the goal, her third assist of the year and her second straight game with a helper.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson collected four saves in the contest.Â
The Wildcats will return home to host USC for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 17. Kickoff from Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium is set for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
