Wildcats Open Spring Season With Win at Gantner Cup

MOUNTAIN LAKE, Fla. (January 31, 2026) – Northwestern men's golf kicked off the spring slate with a win on Saturday, defeating Michigan State to retain the Gantner Cup for the second consecutive year.
Contested at the par-72, 7,375-yard Mountain Lake Country Club, the Wildcats kicked off the morning with foursome matches. The Spartans drew the first blow, defeating the duo of Akshay Anand and Mark Gazi by one. Monty Holcombe and Jeremy Chen won their match 2&1 while Daniel Svärd and Isaac Lee took victory by a whopping 6&5 margin. Ethan Tseng and Rowan Sullivan fell 2&1 to close out the morning as the 'Cats and Spartans sat at all square at the break.
As the afternoon round shifted to four-ball matches, the pairings of Monty Holcombe and Archie Finnie and Isaac Lee and Ethan Tseng both halved their matches. The 'Cats wouldn't drop another point after that, as Mark Gazi and Daniel Svärd won their match 4&3, while Rowan Sullivan and Jeremy Chen secured victory on the 18th hole, clinching a 5-3 win for the Wildcats.
