FORT WORTH, Texas (January 28, 2026) – Days away from kicking off his spring season at the Gantner Cup, Northwestern senior Daniel Svärd has been named to the watch list for the 2026 Ben Hogan Award.
Svärd is one of 35 golfers in contention for the award, which crowns the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA collegiate golfer. The award is based off of results from all collegiate, amateur and professional events contested over the last calendar year, with each year's winner selected by a committee comprised of 40 leaders in collegiate, amateur and professional golf.
Svärd, currently ranked 16th in the latest PGA Tour University rankings, leads the Wildcats with a stroke average of 70.86, coming in at par or better in 11 of his 15 rounds on the season. The senior hailing from Jarfalla, Sweden currently holds three top-5 finishes to date, highlighted by a share of third place at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup and runner up honors at the Windon Memorial Classic.
In December, Svärd finished the White Sands Bahamas Invitational in a share of sixth place at six-under-par.
The Ben Hogan Award has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002, with this year marking the 25th anniversary in Fort Worth. The original Ben Hogan Trophy, which utilized a different set of criteria, was issued by the Friends of Golf (FOG) at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif., beginning in 1990.
The committee will unveil ten semifinalists on April 16. That group will be pared down to three finalists on Tuesday, May 12. The finalists will attend a black-tie dinner on Memorial Day (May 25) at the TCU Legends Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where the winner will be crowned.
