Wildcats Overwhelm No. 4 Johns Hopkins, Hold Blue Jays Scoreless in Second Half

4/3/2025 8:07:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

BALTIMORE, Md. — No. 3 Northwestern (10-2, 4-0) dominated No. 4 Johns Hopkins (9-4, 3-1) in an 18-5 victory Thursday night at Homewood Field, holding the Blue Jays scoreless in the second half. The Wildcats controlled the draw battle 19-7 and had nine different players score, including three with hat tricks.
Madison Taylor led the offense with a game-high eight points on four goals and four assists. Sophomore Taylor Lapointe and junior Lucy Munro each added three goals, with Munro recording the first hat trick of her career.

After conceding the opening goal, Northwestern responded with six unanswered goals in the first quarter. Taylor scored twice in under a minute, both assisted by Niki Miles, before assisting on three of the next four goals. The Wildcats led 6-3 at the end of the period, with Sammy White adding a goal in her hometown.
In the second quarter, Munro netted her first two goals of the night, while Taylor added two more to bring her total to four. Northwestern closed the half on an 8-2 run and entered the break with a 14-5 lead.

The Wildcats' defense took over in the second half, shutting out Johns Hopkins for the remainder of the game. Lapointe and Munro each completed their hat tricks in the third quarter, while Miles scored her second goal of the game. Senior Hannah Johnson capped the scoring with the lone goal of the fourth quarter, assisted by first-year Brooke Stroh with 1:20 remaining. It was Johnson's first goal of the season.

All three Northwestern goalkeepers saw action. Graduate goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer recorded six saves, while redshirt sophomore Francesca Argentieri stopped all five shots she faced for a perfect save percentage. White contributed on both ends with a goal, an assist and three ground balls, while senior Jane Hansen added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Northwestern dominated the draw circle, winning 19-7. Senior Sam Smith led the team with 12 draw controls, while White added three.

The Wildcats improved to 22-4 all-time against Johns Hopkins and extended their Big Ten winning streak to 10 games. The victory snapped the Blue Jays' eight-game win streak and marked the first time this season that Ashley Mackin, the nation's goals-per-game leader, was held to one goal or fewer. It was also Northwestern's second win this season over a No. 4-ranked team by at least 12 goals.
Northwestern stays on the road to face Rutgers on Sunday, April 6, at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey. The game is set for noon CT and will stream on B1G+.
