EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 3 Northwestern (8-2, 2-0) suffered its second loss of the season on Thursday night, falling 15-12 to No. 2 North Carolina (10-0, 5-0) at Ryan Fieldhouse. The game featured 59 combined shots, with senior Emerson Bohlig leading the Wildcats' offense with four goals, while Madison Taylor recorded her ninth hat trick of the season. Despite the loss, Northwestern won the draw control battle 16-13, and goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer tallied eight saves.

Taylor wasted no time getting Northwestern on the board, scoring just 40 seconds into the game. North Carolina responded quickly, netting four straight goals, three of which were assisted by Ashley Humphrey, the nation's leader in assists per game.

Bohlig snapped the Wildcats' scoring drought and later struck again from distance on a breakaway, sparking a 6-0 Northwestern run that stretched across the first and second quarters. The Wildcats carried an 8-6 lead into halftime.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter as North Carolina took control, outscoring Northwestern 5-0 and holding the Wildcats scoreless. The Tar Heels extended their run to 8-0 before Bohlig's fourth goal of the night ended the streak with 9:41 remaining in the fourth quarter. Graduate attacker Niki Miles and Abby LoCascio added late goals to bring Northwestern within two, but North Carolina held on. With the Wildcats pressing and the goalie pulled in the final minute, the Tar Heels added a final goal to seal the victory.

Northwestern returns to action on Sunday, March 30, traveling west to face No. 18 Southern California at 2 PM CT. The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
