
Lake Show Heads West for Clash with No. 18 USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – No. 3 Northwestern (8-2, 2-0) heads west to take on No. 18 USC (8-3, 1-2) on Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. CT (12 p.m. PT) at Dignity Health Sports Park. The game will stream live on B1G+.
Northwestern is coming off a competitive 15-12 loss to No. 2 North Carolina on Thursday night. Despite the setback, the Wildcats won the draw control battle 16-13, while goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer recorded 10 saves. Senior Emerson Bohlig led the offense with four goals, and Madison Taylor posted her ninth hat trick of the season. Taylor continues to lead the nation in goals per game (5.00) and points per game (6.80).
Northwestern boasts the fifth-ranked scoring offense in the country, averaging 16.8 goals per game. Taylor leads the team with 50 goals and 18 assists for 68 points while shooting at a 62% clip. She also ranks second on the team with 23 draw controls. The Wildcats rank eighth nationally in draw control percentage (62.2%) and ninth in draw controls per game (16.8), led by senior Sam Smith, who has a team-high 60 draw controls. Defensively, Northwestern ranks 13th in caused turnovers per game (11.2) and averages 18.6 ground balls per game. The Wildcats have the fifth-ranked scoring defense, while holding opponents to 10 or fewer goals in eight games this season. Sweitzer ranks eighth nationally in goals-against average at 8.63.
USC head coach Lindsey Munday, a two-time national champion with Northwestern in 2005 and 2006, played under current Wildcats head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and later served as an NU assistant from 2007-10. The Trojans are 1-2 against ranked opponents this season, earning a 15-6 win over then-No. 21 Colorado. Northwestern also faced the Buffs and secured a dominant 20-5 victory. Most recently, USC defeated No. 19 Ohio State, 9-8, in Columbus.
