PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Northwestern wrestling takes to the national stage tomorrow, as four Wildcats are set to compete in the 2025 NCAA Championships at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Sam Cartella (149 lbs), Trevor Chumbley (157 lbs), Maxx Mayfield (165 lbs) and Evan Bates (197 lbs) each earned a bid to the national tournament and will represent Northwestern beginning Thursday morning. For Mayfield and Chumbley, this weekend marks a third straight NCAA Championships appearance. Bates will compete in the tournament for the second consecutive season, while Cartella - a redshirt first-year - will make his NCAA Championships debut.

Competition is set to begin on Thursday, March 20, at 11 a.m. CT with Session I. Session II will follow later that evening, at 6 p.m. CT. Friday's action will commence with Session III at 11 a.m. CT and continue with Session IV - featuring semifinal and blood round bouts - at 7 p.m. CT. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, with Session V at 10 a.m. CT and National Finals at 6 p.m. CT.

Bates and Mayfield enter the weekend following podium finishes at the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago. Mayfield, who finished sixth, earned the No. 18 seed at 165 lbs, where he'll match up with Arizona State's Nicco Ruiz. Bates' seventh-place finish at the conference championships netted him the No. 16 seed this weekend. He'll take on Nick Stemmet (Stanford), who he defeated decisively by first-period fall in the third-place match of this year's Midlands Championships.

In his first taste of NCAA Championships action, No. 31 Cartella will face off with the Big Ten Champion at 149 lbs, Nebraska's Ridge Lovett. Cartella compiled a 16-10 record in his first full season of collegiate action, including a team-high nine shutout victories.

Chumbley takes on his third and final NCAA Championships as the No. 20 seed at 157 lbs. His first-round match will be against No. 13 Jared Hill of Wyoming. The pair have met once before, in 2022 - a match Chumbley dominated en route to a 16-1 technical fall.

HOW TO WATCH
The ESPN family of networks will provide comprehensive coverage of all three days of competition in Philadelphia.  ESPNU will be the broadcast home of Sessions I, III, and V, while action shifts to ESPN2 for Session IV, and ESPN for Sessions II and VI.  Action from individual mats can be accessed through ESPN+.
