GENEVA, Ohio - Massey Odiotti will represent the United States at the U23 Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru, this week after storming to the 61 kg title at the U23 National Championships last weekend. The redshirt sophomore went undefeated at SPIRE Academy en route to his Championship.

"Massey deserved this title more than anyone," said Northwestern Head Coach Matt Storniolo. "He has been one of the hardest workers on the team since he stepped onto campus, and his attitude and work ethic serve as an example to his teammates. Our staff has been waiting for him to have a breakout performance like this. The confidence that comes with a national title and the experience of representing the USA at the Pan American Championships is going to unlock new levels for him as a competitor."

Odiotti opened competition at the U23 National Championships with a pair of efficient victories in the main bracket, picking up his first two of five technical falls for the weekend. Odiotti dispatched Riley Rowan (Blue Blood Wrestling Club) in just over 90 seconds in the round of 64 before blanking Caleb Schaefer (Maurer Coughlin Wrestling Club), 10-0, in the round of 32.

In the round of 16, Odiotti once again dominated, pinning Logan Frazier (Indiana RTC) in the first period to advance to the quarterfinals. After another 10-0 technical fall in the quarters, Odiotti secured his place in the finals with a 10-6 decision over Layne Kleimann (Brunson UVRTC). He capped off his competition by downing Jace Hedeman (Panther Wrestling Club RTC) in the best-of-three championship series to seal his title. His fifth technical fall of the tournament put an exclamation point on his weekend, boosting him past Hedeman, 12-2, and to the podium's top step.

Odiotti will join Team USA at the Pan American Championships at the La Videna Velodrome in Lima, Peru, from June 11-13 as the United States seeks to defend its freestyle team title. Men's freestyle action will be competed from start to finish on the tournament's opening day, beginning with qualification rounds at 10 a.m. CT.
