INDIANAPOLIS – Northwestern junior forward Nick Martinelli has been named to the 2024-25 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, as announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Monday.
Martinelli is third in the Big Ten and ranks 25th nationally, averaging 19.4 points per game. He places fifth in the country in scoring by high-major forwards, trailing Eric Dixon (24.2, Villanova), Maxime Raynaud (20.4, Stanford), Dawson Garcia (20.1, Minnesota) and Cooper Flagg (20.0, Duke). Martinelli has scored 15+ points 19 times this season, which is tied for the conference lead.
The Glenview, Ill. native has registered 10 games of 20+ points this season, the most in a season by a Northwestern forward since John Shurna posted 18 such games in 2011-12. The junior scored 25+ points in three straight games (Nov. 4 - Nov. 12), and is currently on a career-best streak of scoring 15+ points in seven straight games.
Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation's oldest award and the only one named after a former player.
