‘Cats, Badgers set to meet for the 54th time

EVANSTON, Ill. (November 3, 2025) – Northwestern men's soccer (7-5-3, 2-4-2 B1G) looks to build off an impressive ranked victory when it treks north to battle Wisconsin on Tuesday evening.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT from the McClimon Soccer Complex.

With a win or draw against the Badgers, Northwestern will clinch its third straight winning season, a feat the program has not accomplished since 2012-14.

LAST TIME OUT
Behind goals from Alejandro Martinez Santamaria and Aaron O'Reilly, Northwestern stunned No. 17 Indiana, 2-0, this past Friday at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.  The aforementioned duo scored across a 6:34 span in the second half, with Martinez Santamaria opening the scoring in the 59th minute, ahead of O'Reilly's 65th-minute strike.

Rafael Ponce de León piled up six saves in goal en route to his fifth shutout of the season and 12th clean sheet of his career, a total that moves him into a share of fifth all-time at Northwestern in the category.  Ponce de León added an assist on O'Reilly's goal, the first by a Wildcat netminder since 2019.

SCOUTING WISCONSIN
Tuesday's matchup with the Wildcats will serve as Wisconsin's Big Ten Conference finale for the 2025 season.  Currently sitting at 6-8 overall (3-6 B1G), fourth-year head coach Neil Jones' team has gone 3-3 across its last six contests, most recently falling on the road to No. 12 Michigan by a 2-1 final last Friday. Markie Hrvojevic scored his third goal of the season in the 43rd minute in the defeat.

Matthew Zachemski has paced Wisconsin in the final third. One of only three Badgers to start in all 14 games this season, Zachemski has tallied five goals this season, four of which have come against Big Ten opposition. He most recently found the back of the net as part of Wisconsin's 2-0 blanking of Penn State on October 25.  Hrvojevic, who is tied for second on the team's goal scoring chart with Bart Muns, also has four assists to his name, while Thomas Raimbault leads the Badger roster with a team-best five helpers.

Matisse Hébert has started in all but two games this season in goal. Hébert holds a 1.48 goals against average with three shutouts, two of which have come in Big Ten Conference play.

SERIES STUFF
Northwestern will battle Wisconsin for the 54th time on Tuesday evening in Wisconsin's state capital.  Unbeaten in its last three matchups against the Wildcats, Wisconsin has established a 31-13-9 (.670) advantage in the all-time series between the two programs.

In last season's clash at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium, chances were at a premium as Northwestern and Wisconsin settled for a scoreless draw. Rafael Ponce de León finished with three saves in goal to lead the Wildcat defensive unit.

UP NEXT
Northwestern returns home on Friday, November 7 to conclude the 2025 regular season against Ohio State in a 7 p.m. CT kickoff at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.
