‘Cats return home to close regular season on Friday against Ohio State

MADISON, Wis. (November 4, 2025) – Thomas Raimbault scored the night's deciding goal with just under four minutes remaining, as Wisconsin (7-8, 4-6 B1G) dealt Northwestern (7-6-3, 2-5-2 B1G) a 1-0 setback this evening at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis.

How It Happened
Following a cagey opening 15 minutes, both teams saw their respective goalkeepers tested before the half-hour mark.  After corralling a feed from Aaron O'Reilly, Italo Addimandi saw his attempt turned away by an onrushing Matisse Hébert before Rafael Ponce de León came up with a point-blank stop of Raimbault in the 26th minute.

Northwestern continued to pressure the Badger netminder as the first half wore on.  Peter Riesz forced an impressive stop out of Hébert on a headed effort from six yards out in the 28th minute.  In the moments following a Wildcat corner kick, Doug Hainer unleashed a rocket from the edge of the 18-yard box that was also turned away, as the two teams ultimately headed to halftime all square at 0-0.

Wisconsin amped up its pressure coming out of the intermission, as the Wildcats saw off five straight Badger corner kicks in the early moments of the second stanza.  Following blocked efforts by Addimandi and Joe Suchecki, Alejandro Martinez Santamaria took aim at the near post in the 64th minute, letting fly with a screaming blast that flew narrowly wide of goal.

Raimbault cashed in for the night's lone goal, scoring from just in front of the penalty spot to give the hosts a 1-0 edge.  Yuval Nimrodi looked to provide a near-immediate response, heading wide of goal just 74 seconds after Raimbault's opener, as Wisconsin went on to close out a 1-0 victory on its home field.

Looking At The Numbers
- Wisconsin finished with a slim 12-11 edge in shots in a matchup where both teams put three shots on goal.
- Suchecki paced the Wildcat attack with three attempts.
- Riesz, Addimandi, and Hainer each put a shot on target.
- Ponce de León made a pair of saves in goal.
