EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men's basketball hits the road for the first time this season to face crosstown rival DePaul inside Wintrust Arena on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on truTV and streamed on HBO Max with Spero Dedes (play-by-play), Greg Anthony (analyst) and Lauren Jbara (sideline) on the call and can be heard on WGN Radio 720 and SiriusXM Channel 390 with the Voice of the 'Cats, Dave Eanet (play-by-play), and Billy McKinney (analyst).
Last time out, the Wildcats (3-0) registered a 110-63 pummeling of Cleveland State, their largest margin of victory against a Division I opponent since 2017. Northwestern's 110 points marked its most since 2020, and the team's 57 second-half points were its most in a half since 2021. The team converted 41 field goals, its most in a game since at least 1998. For the first time in program history, Northwestern won its first three games of a season by 20+ points each.
Northwestern had five players tally 15+ points in a game for the first time since at least 2005. Senior forward Nick Martinelli led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds on 9-of-14 shooting, including draining all three of his 3-point attempts. Junior forward Arrinten Page notched 17 points, nine rebounds, and three assists on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor. First-year forward Tre Singleton registered 15 points, his first career games scoring in double figures. Senior guard Justin Mullins and sophomore guard Max Green both tallied 16 points off the bench, marking the first time the Wildcats had two players score 15+ points off the bench since 2021.
Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins is in his 13th season guiding the Wildcats. He has 197 career wins in Evanston and is three shy of joining Naismith Hall of Famer Dutch Lonborg (1927-50) as the only head coaches in program history to reach 200 victories.
Martinelli received significant preseason attention ahead of his final year in Evanston. The 6-foot-7 forward was named to the Naismith Player of the Year Watch List, the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Watch List and was a 2025-26 Preseason All-Big Ten selection. Last season, Martinelli became the fourth Wildcat to lead the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 20.5 points per game in 2024-25. His average marked the highest by a Northwestern player since Evan Eschmeyer (21.7, 1997-98). Martinelli's 676 total points broke the school's single-season scoring record, previously held by John Shurna (661, 2011-12).
Martinelli is the fifth-leading returning scorer in all of college basketball this season, and is second among all scorers who are returning to the school they played at in 2024-25, joining Markus Burton (Notre Dame, 21.3 ppg). The Glenview, Ill., product has scored 15+ points in 21 straight games dating back to last season, the longest active streak by a high-major player in the country. Martinelli has scored in double figures in 29 straight games, the longest streak by a Northwestern player since Evan Eschmeyer (1997-99, 65).
Transfer acquisitions Page and Reid have made an instant impact for the Wildcats. Page, who comes to Northwestern after stops at USC and Cincinnati, has averaged 14.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in just 23.7 minutes per game. Posting 18 points and 12 rebounds in the season opener against Mercyhurst, he became the first Wildcat since at least 2004 to register a double-double in his Northwestern debut. Coming from USF, Reid has posted averages of 10.3 points and 6.3 assists per game with just 0.7 turnovers per game. He is one of four players in the nation averaging 10+ points and 6+ assists with fewer than one turnover. Reid has posted eight assists in two consecutive games, making him the first Wildcat to do so since Boo Buie on Jan. 7-10, 2024.
Through three games this season, Northwestern has held opponents to 54.0 points per game, which leads the Big Ten and ranks 10th nationally. It also marks the fewest points allowed over the first three games of a season since 2018-19 (52.3). The Wildcats' three opponents have shot a combined 61-of-178 (34.3%) this season, while averaging 12.7 turnovers per game.
Northwestern is set to play the Blue Demons (2-1) for the fourth consecutive season. The Wildcats have won each of the last three meetings and have won seven of the last eight matchups. Northwestern defeated DePaul 84-64 last year in Evanston, led by Brooks Barnhizer's 21 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and three blocks. This year's matchup ties the earliest meeting between the two teams, which previously took place on Nov. 14, 2006 — a 49-39 Northwestern victory.
In Chris Holtmann's first season as head coach, he led the Blue Demons to a 14-win season, their best since 2019-20 (16). DePaul was picked ninth in the preseason BIG EAST poll, its highest since the Blue Demons were picked eighth in 2015-16. CJ Gunn, who is averaging 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game to open the season, was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team.
Northwestern's matchup with the Blue Demons marks its first of five games away from Welsh-Ryan Arena, its longest stretch since 2003-04. The Wildcats will next travel to the Greenbrier Tip-Off in West Virginia, where they will face Virginia and South Carolina. The 'Cats and Cavaliers will meet at 4 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network and WGN Radio 720 on Friday, Nov. 21.
