Anand, Shiels-Donegan Pace ‘Cats At Sahalee Players Championship

Both members of duo place inside top 25 on individual leaderboard
SAMMAMISH, Wash. (September 8, 2024) – Akshay Anand and Niall Shiels-Donegan both came away with top-25 finishes as the Northwestern University men's golf team opened its 2024-25 season over the weekend at the Sahalee Players Championship in Sammamish, Wash.

The 'Cats closed play at the Sahalee Country Club (par 72; 7,007 yards) with a 54-hole team score of 886 (296-286-304) to place 11th in the team race. Arizona State (282-284-291=857) claimed the team championship, while Oregon's Aiden Krafft finished with a four-under-par 212 (71-70-71) to edge a pair of Sun Devils, Jose Luis Ballester (69-72-72=213) and Preston Summerhays (71-68-74), for individual medalist honors.
Anand secured the fourth top-25 finish of his collegiate career this weekend in the Pacific Northwest, compiling a one-over-par 217 (72-69-76) to earn a share of 13th place. Playing under 10 miles from his native Redmond, Wash., Anand dazzled in Saturday's second round, piling up six birdies as part of a three-under 69, his third career round in the 60s.
Following an impressive debut season at Northwestern in which he appeared in 27 rounds, Shiels-Donegan was just two strokes back of Anand on the weekend, posting a three-over 219 (71-75-73) to tie for 23rd. The Mill Valley, Calif. product opened play with a one-under-par 71 en route to placing inside the top 25 for the fourth time as a Wildcat.
Coming off a sophomore campaign in which he won a second consecutive Big Ten Conference individual title, Daniel Svärd finished as part of a tie for 34th with a 221 (74-71-76) that included his 41st career round at par or better, a second-round one-under 71.
Aidan Kramer and Mark Gazi made their respective Wildcat debuts this weekend. Kramer, a graduate transfer, carded a one-under 71 of his own during second-round play on the way to tying for 61st at 229 (79-71-79). Making his first collegiate appearance, Gazi, who competed as an individual, turned in a 231 (76-77-78) that saw him tie for 66th. Ethan Tseng wrapped up the event tied for 76th with a 240 (80-81-79).
