Wildcats Win 19-14 at Colorado, Scane Scores 300th Career Goal

BOULDER, Colo. – No. 4 Northwestern (3-1) secured a mile high victory, 19-14, over No. 20 Colorado (3-1) to win their second in a row and first road match of the season. Attacker Izzy Scane scored her 300th career goal and Madison Taylor set a career-high with six tallies. Playing outdoors at Kittredge Field, the reigning national champions dominated the second half to pull away from the Buffaloes. NU outshot their opponents 43-28 and won the draw control battle 25-12.    
 
Offensively, the 'Cats were led by Taylor (6 goals, 1 assist), Scane (5 goals, 2 assists and a game-high 14 shots), Dylan Amonte (4 goals) and Erin Coykendall (1 goal, 4 helpers).
 
How It Happened
Colorado jumped out to a 3-1 lead just under five minutes into the game. Northwestern rallied by scoring the next 3 goals, including two by Amonte. Colorado then opened the second quarter by taking a 7-6 lead. Each team went on multiple goal-scoring runs in the second quarter, including a five-goal-run by the Wildcats to put them up 11-7. NU led at the half, 11-9. The Wildcats outscored their opponent 8-5 in the second half to secure the key road win.
 
Game Notes
  • Izzy Scane scored goals no. 300 and 301 of her career. She entered the game with 296 career goals.
  • Junior Samantha Smith won 8 draw controls for the 'Cats.
  • Colorado assistant coach Nicole Beardsley graduated from Northwestern in 2018. During her lacrosse career in Evanston, Beardsley was an All-Big Ten Tournament selection, a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a member of the team leadership group.
  • The 'Cats are 4-1 in their last five games versus Colorado.
