Northwestern’s Nick Martinelli Named Big Ten Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – After leading the conference in both scoring and rebounding for the week, Northwestern junior forward Nick Martinelli has been named Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office this afternoon.
The Glenview, Ill. product averaged 29.0 points and 12.0 rebounds for the week, while shooting an efficient 75-percent (21-for-28) from the field. He became the first Big Ten player to post 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in each of the first two games of a season since at least 1996-97.
Martinelli opened the campaign by scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Lehigh (11/4), going 7-for-10 from the field and 2-for-2 from behind the arc. On the road at Dayton (11/9), he tallied a career-high 32 points, the most by a Big Ten player this season, and collected a career-high 14 boards while shooting 9-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-3 from 3-point distance. Martinelli is the first Big Ten player since at least 2005-06 to score 30+ points, grab 14+ rebounds and shoot 75% from the field with a 3-pointer.
Northwestern returns to action inside Welsh-Ryan Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 12 against UIC at 6 p.m. CT. The game will air on BTN and WGN Radio 720.
