'Cats Head to Harvard for ITA Kickoff
1/26/2024 6:08:00 PM | Men's Tennis
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Men's tennis is headed east for the ITA Kickoff this weekend as they prepare for a pair of matches in Cambridge, Mass. On Saturday, Northwestern will take on Mississippi at 1 p.m. CT. Then, the 'Cats will face either Harvard or UCLA on Sunday, time to be determined.
Last Sunday, Northwestern took Louisville to the wire in their home opener at Combe but came just shy of their first win of the season. The match was decided in its final set as Presley Thieneman fell just short after a pair of tiebreak sets at #2 singles. Greyson Casey, Saiprakash Goli, and Chad Miller all picked up singles wins against the Cardinals - the first of each of their careers.
The 'Cats will face a 4-0 Ole Miss team on Saturday, hoping to halt their winning streak. Following that, Northwestern will go against either Harvard or UCLA. Harvard is currently ranked #15 in the ITA poll with a 2-1 record while UCLA has started their season 0-1. The winner of the ITA Kickoff in Cambridge will advance to the indoor championships next weekend.
Following this weekend's action, Northwestern will be back at home next Friday to face Oregon at Combe Tennis Center. First serve in that match is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
