'Cats Down Ole Miss in First Round of ITA Kickoff

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Northwestern men's tennis will compete in the championship match in Cambridge's ITA Kickoff Sunday after defeating Ole Miss 4-2 in the first round Saturday.
The Rebels got off to the first advantage in the opening round with a pair of wins in the doubles portion of the day, taking 6-3 and 6-4 victories at #1 and #3 doubles respectively.
Once the match moved on to singles, however, Northwestern got off to an early advantage. Greyson Casey picked up his second straight victory with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) tiebreak win at the #5 position. He was followed by Felix Nordby, who picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at #4.
After Gleb Blekher dropped his match, Saiprakash Goli gave the 'Cats back a 3-2 advantage with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #3 - his second straight singles victory as well. Presley Thieneman then closed the deal with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at #2, giving the 'Cats their first win of the 2024 season and a ticket to the weekend's championship match.
Northwestern is now set to face off with hosts No. 15 Harvard tomorrow with a trip to the ITA Indoor Championships on the line. First serve from Cambridge is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
