'Cats Claim 3-2 Road Win over Terriers in Season Opener

BOSTON – For the third consecutive year, Northwestern won its season opener, defeating Boston University 3-2 on the road in a high-scoring affair.

Megan Norkett tallied the first goal of the 2024 campaign on a sensational individual effort, firing a shot past the Terrier keeper in the fifth minute to break the ice. NU doubled its lead in the 30th minute, when Kennedy Roesch crossed a ball into Caterina Regazzoni, who coolly slotted it home to put the 'Cats up two-nil. The Terriers got on the board with a 50th-minute goal from Giulianna Gianino, assisted by Eileen Solomon.

BU narrowed the gap on Northwestern to make it a 3-2 game on Gianino's goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Morgan Weaver.

In the closing stages of the game, Reiley Fitzpatrick denied Juliana Osterman to preserve the Wildcat lead, closing out the victory for Northwestern.
