No. 18 'Cats to Open Season at Marquette

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 18 Northwestern women's soccer kicks off the 2023-24 Wildcat athletic season with a trip north to face Marquette. Kickoff from Milwaukee is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on FloSports.
Northwestern debuted at No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll after a 2022 season that saw the Wildcats break numerous records. The 'Cats return eight of 11 starters and 74.3% of total minutes played from the 2022 roster.
The Wildcats are looking to win their second consecutive season opener after defeating Kansas State 2-1 in Manhattan to open the 2022 season.
Josie Aulicino, Meg Boade, and Caterina Regazzoni were all named to the 2023 Big Ten Women's Soccer Players to Watch List. All three players earned All-Big Ten honors a season ago. Six All-Big Ten honorees (First Team- Meg Boade, Second Team- Aurea del Carmen, Emma Phillips, Third Team- Josie Aulicino, Danika Austin, Caterina Regazzoni) return from a season ago.
Northwestern looks to build on its four-match winning streak against BIG EAST foes. The 'Cats knocked off DePaul (3-1), No. 19 Xavier (2-0), and Butler (1-0) a season ago.
Friday's matchup will mark the twelfth all-time meeting between Northwestern and Marquette on the pitch. Marquette leads the series 6-3-2, with the Wildcats taking the two most recent meetings. The Golden Eagles own a 4-1-1 advantage in Milwaukee.
Marquette was picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST preseason poll. The Golden Eagles return eleven goalscorers from 2022, including Elsi Twombly who led the team in points (11) in 2022.
Nine newcomers joined the Northwestern roster, including two transfers (Jaelyn Eisenhart and Gina Muzi) and seven first years (Holland Carey, Maddie Finnerty, Presley Nevadomsky, Megan Norkett, Sarah O'Donnell, CJ Roy, and Keira Wagner).
