EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern Wildcats had a tough showing on Friday, falling to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 7-1.
Junior Matt McClure (1-5) started and took the loss on the mound for Northwestern (6-26, 3-7 B1G). Junior Kellen Pate continued his impressive spring, tossing 1.2 perfect innings and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Wildcats were led by Livermore, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rutgers took the first lead of the ballgame in the first inning with a two-run home run off the bat of Chris Brito. They added on in the fifth with three more runs, including another home run, to make the score 4-0. The Wildcats put their lone run up in the fifth inning, when an RBI single from Livermore scored senior Luke Tanner from third base. The Wildcats were unable to get any closer, as Rutgers added three runs to their tally on the way to a 7-1 final.
