Wildcats Host Three Matches in Final Regular Season Homestand

EVANSTON, Ill. – Fresh off a victory over in-state rival Illinois, No. 23 Northwestern men's tennis will welcome a trio of opponents to Evanston this weekend. 

No. 45 Nebraska will visit Combe Tennis Center on Friday, April 14 for a Friday night matchup at 6 p.m. CT. The 'Cats will play a doubleheader on Sunday, welcoming No.  Wisconsin and Illinois State to Evanston. The Wisconsin match is set for 12 p.m. CT at Vandy Christie Tennis Center (location subject to change) with the Illinois State match slated for 6 p.m. CT at Combe Tennis Center. The Wildcats will celebrate Natan Spear on Senior Day on Sunday ahead of the match against Wisconsin. Northwestern took down Illinois in a thriller on Saturday, defeating the Fighting Illini for the first time since March 12, 2016. Northwestern claimed the doubles point behind wins from Steven Forman/Simen Bratholm at #1 Doubles and Trice Pickens/Natan Spear at #3 Doubles. Ivan Yatsuk, Gleb Blekher, and Trice Pickens claimed wins in singles action to clinch the match for Northwestern.

Nebraska makes the trip to Evanston with a record of 12-7 and a No. 45 ranking in the ITA Team Rankings. The Huskers are 4-2 in Big Ten play, with both conference losses coming at the hands of Ohio State and Michigan. 

Wisconsin will face Illinois on Friday, April 14 before making the trek to Evanston. UW is ranked No. 51 in the ITA Team Rankings with an 11-7 overall record and 4-2 record against Big Ten foes. Gabriel Huber and Michael Minasyan rank as the No. 56 doubles pairing nationally in the ITA Doubles Rankings.

Illinois State currently boasts a record of 10-12. The Wildcats will mark the third Big Ten opponent of the season for the Redbirds, having previously fallen to Illinois and Indiana. 

Following the three-match homestand, Northwestern will conclude its regular season with road contests at Michigan and Michigan State.
