Wildcats Host Flames for Midweek Matchup

EVANSTON, Ill. – Fresh off a series victory against Illinois, Northwestern baseball will take on another in-state rival Tuesday as they face off with the UIC Flames for the second of three matchups this season. First pitch between the 'Cats and the Flames is scheduled for 3:30 PM at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.
The Wildcats (5-21, 3-3 B1G) took two of three from the Fighting Illini in their first home conference series this past weekend, winning Friday on a walk-off and Sunday behind a pair of home runs. Cooper Foard was the hero in the opener, knocking a two-RBI single to secure a 4-3 win in nine innings, while Sunday's offense came from Stephen Hrustich and Owen McElfatrick, who both hit three-run home runs to contribute to a 7-4 final score.
For Hrustich, Sunday's performance was an exclamation point on what has been a steadily productive last month at the plate. The senior enters play against UIC on a 12-game hitting streak that has included two doubles, two homers and five multi-hit games. For McElfatrick, the home run was his second of the season and his first since March 3, when he hit his first collegiate homer at Louisiana Tech.
The 'Cats will line up behind graduate student Ethan Sund tomorrow as he makes his first start as a Wildcat. Sund, a righty, has made six appearances out of the bullpen this season, going 0-1 with a 12.60 ERA (14ER/10.0IP). Sund made 11 starts in 13 appearances last season at North Park University, pitching to a 6-4 record and a 3.46 ERA (30ER/78.0IP) overall for the Vikings.
On the other side, UIC (13-14, 3-6 MVC) is also coming off a series victory. The Flames took two of three from Murray State over the weekend, including a 12-1 win in Sunday's finale. They'll send righty Reece Lawler to the mound for his first start of the season. Lawler, a redshirt sophomore, has appeared just once for the Flames this year, a one-inning relief effort against Indiana State on April 2.
After Tuesday's game concludes, the 'Cats will prepare to resume Big Ten action this upcoming weekend at Nebraska. Northwestern will play a three-game set in Lincoln beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m.
