EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern travels south this weekend for a three-game series at Saint Louis in Missouri.
First will feature a double-header, with first pitch in game one set for noon CT and game two to follow the conclusion of game one. Saturday's single game will begin at noon.
This past weekend, the 'Cats battled Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. in a tight three-game series.
First-year Owen McElfatrick went 3-for-5 in game one, blasting his first-career home run in the eighth inning. Catcher Alex Calarco doubled as part of a 2-for-4 game.
The 'Cats took Louisiana Tech to extra innings on Saturday, but ultimately fell in the eleventh inning. Matt McClure got the ball on Saturday and did not allow a hit through four innings. Nolan Morr tallied four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen. The 'Cats took a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning on a Cooper Foard double but could not hold on to the advantage.
Northwestern exploded for a six-run first inning on Sunday but eventually dropped the contest 14-9. Tony Livermore led NU with four hits. While McElfatrick, Stephen Hrustich, and Alex Calarco all tallied three hits. Cooper Foard continued his impressive weekend with two hits and two RBI.
After a slow start to his collegiate career, McElfatrick raised his average nearly .200 points thanks to a 6-for-13 weekend in Louisiana.
The 'Cats squared-off against Chicago rivals UIC on Tuesday for a mid-week matchup. Northwestern tallied five extra-base hits, including a home run off the bat of Griffin Arnone, but fell 10-6.
Saint Louis (8-3) leads the all-time series 6-4 against Northwestern, with the two programs last splitting a four-game series in 2011. After dropping their first three games, the Billikens have won eight-straight.
