
Northwestern Swept in Doubleheader at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Northwestern baseball scored first with a first-inning home run in both halves of Friday's doubleheader at Saint Louis, but ultimately fell to the Billikens in both games.
In game one, Northwestern received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Wildcats fell to the Billikens 16-6.
In game two, Sophomore Alex Calarco led the offense with three hits, but Northwestern once again fell, 14-5.
Junior Matt McClure (0-3) got the ball to start game one, while Sam Garewal started game two. The second decision of the day went to reliever Drew Dickson (0-1), who took the loss for Northwestern (0-12).
Griffin Arnone and Stephen Hrustich led the way offensively for the Wildcats; Arnone opened game one with a leadoff home run, whild Hrustich hit a three-run shot in the first frame of game two. Trent Liolios contributed all day long, going 4-for-8 across both games with a double, two RBI and a walk.
HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
The Wildcats got the scoring started early with Arnone's solo shot to lead off the ball game. The added on another before the Billikens had even reached the plate, making it 2-0 'Cats after the top of the first.
The Billikens rallied to score four runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Wildcats got back on the board in the third. Northwestern scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Cooper Foard, which tightened the Billikens' lead to 4-3. The 'Cats kept the rally going in the fourth, evening it up at four apiece.
The Billikens broke the tie and took a 8-4 lead heading into the fifth inning, but Northwestern got back on the board too. The Wildcats scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Arnone, bringing the score to 8-5 in favor of Saint Louis.
The Wildcats got within two in the sixth, when senior Stephen Hrustich came across to score the lone run of the inning and bring the score to 8-6. The Wildcats were unable to get any closer, however, and Saint Louis added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 16-6 final.
HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
The Wildcats once again got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. All of them came across on a three-run homer off the bat of Hrustich, his first of the season.
The Wildcats lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 8-3. Hrustich came across to score the lone run of the inning for Northwestern, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Billikens.
Saint Louis built their lead to 11-4 through the middle innings. The Wildcats briefly reduced that lead to 11-5 in the seventh, but they were unable to get any closer. Saint Louis powered their way through the final frames, bringing the game to a 14-5 final.
