'Cats Drop Doubleheader in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas -- Northwestern battled in both halves of a doubleheader Saturday, but ended up falling in both games - 12-8 to UT-Arlington in game one and 10-2 to Houston in game two.
The 'Cats received contributions from every part of their lineup in the afternoon game, as all nine starters reached base safely. Junior Vincent Bianchina led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 for Northwestern with a walk. Griffin Arnone had a good day all around, going 3-for-10 with three doubles and an RBI.
Drew Dickson (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Northwestern in game one, while Michael Farinelli (0-4) got the start and the loss in game two. Ryan Keenan was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats were trailing 7-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Northwestern's offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard.
The Mavericks expanded their lead to 9-3 before the Wildcats offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. The Northwestern offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Arnone, which tightened the Mavericks lead to 9-7.
Northwestern held the Mavericks off the board before narrowing the gap to 9-8 in the seventh. The Wildcats notched a run on Roessner's two-out RBI double. The Wildcats were unable to get any closer, as UT Arlington added three runs to their tally on the way to a 12-8 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The 'Cats kept the game close through four, allowing only one run. The Cougars broke through in the fifth, however, putting four on the board to give Houston a 5-0 lead. The Wildcats first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Markinson drove in two for Northwestern with a single that scored Trent Liolios and Alex Calarco. The Wildcats were unable to get any closer, however, as Houston added five runs to their tally on the way to a 10-2 final.
