'Cats Open Home Season Against NIU

EVANSTON, Ill. – After more than a month on the road, Northwestern baseball will open their home season on Tuesday with a single-game matchup against Northern Illinois at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park. First pitch between the Wildcats and the Huskies is set for 3:30 p.m.

The Wildcats (1-17) will host NIU (5-17) in the programs' first meeting since 2014. The Huskies hold a 15-12 advantage in the all-time series, including a 4-0 victory in the most recent meeting, which took place in Crestwood.

Tuesday's game will be the fifth in a week stretch for Northwestern, who met TCU, UT-Arlington and Houston over the past seven days. Despite the losses, the 'Cats received some promising offensive outputs. They scored eight runs in both games against the Mavericks and hit a season-high six doubles in the Friday matchup.

Owen McElfatrick broke out with two doubles on Friday, part of a 5-for-9 week. Alex Calarco also continued his contributions, going 5-for-13 during the weekend series. The sophomore has now hit safely in ten of his last 12 games, giving him a .388 average (19-for-49) during that stretch.

The 'Cats went 13-8 in Evanston last season, including an 8-1 home mark against non-conference opponents.
