EVANSTON, ILL. – Northwestern women's basketball is set for their home season finale as they prepare to take on Wisconsin on senior night this Thursday. Tip-off between the 'Cats and the Badgers is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena with action to be televised on Big Ten Network.
Before Thursday's game, the program will honor their two seniors: Kaylah Rainey and Laya Hartman. During their four years at Northwestern, the pair have contributed to 68 Wildcat wins, including a victory over UCF in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. In 2020, they helped the 'Cats to their first regular season Big Ten title since 1990. Rainey and Hartman will be honored on court in a ceremony ahead of game action.
Following that, the Wildcats (9-18, 2-14) will face off with Wisconsin (9-19, 4-12) for the second time this season after taking down the Badgers 70-67 in Madison on January 29. That win gave the 'Cats seven straight victories over the Badgers, leading to a 45-32 edge in the all-time series.
Northwestern will head into the rematch fresh off a 76-62 victory over Minnesota on Saturday. The 'Cats racked up a season-high 18 steals to force 25 Minnesota turnovers in the game. That compared to just eight turnovers by the Wildcats - their lowest mark of the season so far.
Leading the defensive stand was Hailey Weaver, who grabbed a career-high six steals in the matchup. That tied for most steals by a player in a game this year, matching Rainey's six against Michigan. Weaver also scored seven points in the game and dealt out three assists - another career high.
On the offensive end, Caileigh Walsh led all scorers with 22 points. It was the sophomore's third 20+ point performance this season and brought her just shy of her career high of 24 points. Walsh is averaging 12.0 points a game this year to lead the roster.
After Thursday's game, the 'Cats will head to Nebraska to wrap up the regular season against the Cornhuskers on Sunday. Tip-off in Lincoln is set for 1:00 p.m.
