Scane Scores 10 Goals, No. 5 Northwestern Downs No. 14 Notre Dame

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern graduate student Izzy Scane scored 10 goals, tying her single-game program record, and led the No. 5 Wildcats to an 18-14 victory over No. 14 Notre Dame in the 2023 home opener inside Ryan Fieldhouse.
Scane tallied eight of her 10 goals in the second half and added two assists, two ground balls and a caused turnover. The Clarkston, Mich. native missed all of last season with an injury, but hasn't missed a beat coming back and has already scored 15 goals in two games.

Samantha Smith and Madison Taylor also contributed two goals apiece.
Northwestern (1-1) clung to a 6-4 halftime lead before exploding for six goals in each of the game's final two quarters. The Wildcats placed 33 of their 40 shots on goal. The Fighting Irish (1-1) scored the game's first goal, but Northwestern never trailed the remainder of the game and led by as many as nine goals with six minutes left to play.
Kasey Choma tallied a team-high six goals for Notre Dame, who tallied 40 total shots.
Wildcats goal keeper Molly Laliberty made 13 saves in a prolific home debut. NU improved its all-time record to 23-5 against the Irish.
Northwestern faces another challenging team to close out the week and it welcomes No. 3 Boston College to Ryan Fieldhouse at Noon CT on Sunday, Feb. 19.
