EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 5 Northwestern welcomes No. 14 Notre Dame for its home opener at Ryan Fieldhouse on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT, before squaring off against powerhouse No. 3 Boston College on Sunday at noon. Both games will be streamed live on B1G+.

10 Things to Know
  1. The Wildcats have won 21-straight home games, including 11 in a row at Ryan Fieldhouse, trailing North Carolina (33-straight home wins) for the NCAA lead.
  2. Northwestern has won its previous 20 home openers, dating back to the 2003 season. The streak is highlighted by a 7-5 win over No. 1 North Carolina in 2014.
  3. After missing the 2022 season due to injury, grad student Izzy Scane returned to the field for the first time since 2021 in the season-opener against No. 5 Syracuse. The All-American scored her first goal in over 600 days with 13:34 left to go in the second quarter off an assist from Erin Coykendall. Scane tied for the game-high with five goals and added two assists.
  4. The last time Scane was healthy, she posted a record breaking season. Her 6.13 goals per game in 2021 set a single-season NCAA record. She also set program single-season records in goals (98) and points per game (7.75).
  5. Northwestern is 22-5 all-time against Notre Dame, including a 17-16 win in the last matchup on Feb. 23, 2022 in South Bend.
  6. The 'Cats have split their four meetings with Boston College under Kelly Amonte Hiller, but are 3-6 all time against the Eagles. The two powerhouses last met in the 2022 season opener in Chestnut Hill, where the 'Cats fell 18-9 to the No. 1 Eagles.
  7. First-year Madison Taylor impressed in her collegiate debut against No. 5 Syracuse, tying Scane for a team-high five goals on seven shots to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Taylor is the first NU player to score 5+ goals in her collegiate debut since at least the 2007 season.
  8. The Wildcats ended the 2022 season by making their 13th trip in program history to the NCAA Semifinals, compiling a 16-5 overall record and a 5-1 record in Big Ten play.
  9. Senior Erin Coykendall joins Scane on the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list and claimed Second Team All-American honors. Coykendall tallied a goal and two assists in the season opener after leading Northwestern's offense alongside Lauren Gilbert last season, racking up 37 assists and 45 goals.
  10. The final Wildcat listed as a Player to Watch is 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Samantha White. A utility player for Northwestern, White made her presence known up and down the field last year. White posted six goals, three assists, 45 draw controls and 36 ground balls in her inaugural season with the 'Cats.
