Northwestern Picked Second in Big Ten Preseason Poll

EVANSTON, Ill. — After claiming the No. 4 ranking in the ILWomen/IWLCA preseason poll, Northwestern was picked second in the Big Ten Conference preseason coaches' poll.
The Wildcats finished 2022 with a 16-5 record and a 5-1 mark in league action, while making the program's 13th trip to the NCAA Semifinals.
Three Wildcats were highlighted as Players to Watch: Erin Coykendall, Izzy Scane and Samantha White. Coykendall received First Team All-Big Ten honors at the conclusion of the 2022 season. The Spencerport, N.Y. native was third in the Big Ten in assists per game (1.68) and was third on the team in goals (45).
After winning Big Ten Freshman of the Week four times, White was named the 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. A true utility player for the 'Cats, White logged six goals, three assists, 45 draw controls and 36 ground balls in her first year in Evanston.
Scane missed the 2022 season due to injury but led both the conference and the NCAA in several statistics in the 2021 season. She led the Big Ten and set program records in single season goals (98), goals per game (6.13) and points per game (7.75), easily earning unanimous 2021 Big Ten Attacker of the Year honors. Her 6.13 career goals per game is an NCAA record.
Maryland, the reigning Big Ten Champions, were picked to win the league.
