Barnhizer Scores 29 in Northwestern's Exhibition Win Over McKendree

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Brooks Barnhizer posted 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting, leading the Wildcats over McKendree, 85-63, in an exhibition game inside Welsh-Ryan Arena on Wednesday night. The team officially opens its season at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6 against Binghamton.

The Wildcats had four players score in double figures, led by Brooks Barnhizer, who had also added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists, five steals and four blocks. Justin Mullins added 14 points and four assists off the bench and Ryan Langborg chipped in as well with 13 points and three steals. 

Northwestern dished out 25 assists while turning the ball over just three times. Boo Buie led the team with nine assists, while also scoring 10 points. The Wildcats defense forced 20 McKendree turnovers while committing only three themselves, and turned those turnovers into 29 points.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 30-21 advantage, Northwestern went on an 8-0 run with 7:16 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Barnhizer, to increase its lead to 38-21. The Wildcats held a 45-30 advantage at halftime with the help of seven treys.

Following intermission, Northwestern kept widening that lead, expanding it to 52-35 before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Ty Berry's three, to grow the lead to 62-35 with 13:45 to go in the contest. NU never trailed in the game and led by as many as 28 points.
