EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern is set to host Binghamton to officially open the 2023-24 campaign and the 119th season of Wildcats basketball on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. CT inside Welsh-Ryan Arena. The game will air on B1G+ with Andy Masur (play-by-play) and Eli Berk (analyst) on the call, while Dave Eanet (play-by-play) and Billy McKinney (analyst) will have the radio call on WGN Radio 720.

Last time out, the Wildcats breezed by McKendree 85-63 in an exhibition contest at Welsh-Ryan Arena behind 29 points from Brooks Barnhizer. The Wildcats notched 25 assists, while committing just three turnovers against McKendree.

The Wildcats had four players score in double figures, led by Barnhizer, who also added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists, five steals and four blocks. Justin Mullins posted 14 points and four assists off the bench and Ryan Langborg chipped in as well with 13 points and three steals.

The 'Cats return three starters (Ty Berry, Boo Buie, and Matthew Nicholson) and 61.7% of points scored (fourth most in the Big Ten) from the 2022-23 team that won 22 games and earned the program's second NCAA Tournament berth.

Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins enters his 11th season leading the 'Cats. The reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year ranks third in program history with 155 wins in Evanston.

Collins added six new Wildcats to the roster this season: first-years Blake BarkleyParker Strauss, and Jordan Clayton, and transfers Ryan LangborgJustin Mullins, and Blake Preston.

Buie embarks on his fifth and final season in Evanston, and ranks 10th in program history with 1,541 career points. The First Team All-Big Ten honoree averaged 17.3 points and 4.5 assists per game last season and was named a finalist for the 2023 Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the top point guard in Division I men's college basketball. Ahead of this year he was named Preseason All-Big Ten, a Preseason All-American (Blue Ribbon) and selected to the NABC Division I Player of the Year and Cousy Award watch lists.

The Wildcats are tipping off the regular season at home for the 13th consecutive season. Northwestern has won 14 of their last 15 season openers and under Collins are 9-1.

Monday's matchup will mark the second all-time meeting between Northwestern and Binghamton. The only prior meeting occurred in 2018, an 82-54 Wildcat win behind a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds) from Barrett Benson.

Binghamton finished the 2022-23 season 13-18, finishing fifth in the America East and advancing to the America East semifinals. The Bearcats were picked to finish fourth in the America East Coaches' Poll.
