No. 1 'Cats to Host Ohio on Senior Day

EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 1 Northwestern field hockey returns home this weekend and prepares to celebrate senior day against Ohio. The Wildcats take on the Bobcats Sunday at Lakeside Field, with action set to begin at 11:00 a.m. CT. A pregame ceremony will honor 12 graduating seniors and grad students in Northwestern field hockey's class of 2024.

Storylines

The Wildcats extended their win streak to 12 straight games after a 2-0 victory over No. 3 Iowa last Friday, tying for the second longest winning streak in program history. The last Northwestern team to win at least 12 in a row was the 1990 'Cats, who ran off 12 straight from September 15 to October 27. The 1985 team holds the current program record with 14 straight wins to start the season. The current 12-game winning streak is the longest of head coach Tracy Fuchs' career.
The 'Cats have shut out their opponent in each of their last four games. It is their second four-game shutout streak of the year. Northwestern's 0.69 shutouts per game leads the nation and their goals against average of 0.53 ranks first nationally as well.
Ilse Tromp earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award after scoring the opening goal against No. 3 Iowa and playing all 60 minutes en route to helping the defense keep the Hawkeyes off the scoresheet. Tromp is the second Wildcat this season to earn the award, following Olivia Bent-Cole who earned it two weeks ago. The 'Cats have taken home at least one weekly award in five of seven weeks this season.
Northwestern has scored at least one goal off a penalty corner in each of their past four games. The 'Cats' 9.54 penalty corners per game leads Division I teams.
Northwestern moved to No. 1 in the NFHCA poll this weekend with North Carolina (9-2) moving to No. 3 after their loss to now-No. 7 Liberty last Sunday. The 'Cats reclaim the first overall spot for the first time since last September.
Prior to Sunday's action, field hockey's 12 seniors and grad students will be honored on the field. Together, the class of 2024 has won 62 games and reached two Final Fours, crowned by their 2021 National Championship title - the first in program history.

Matchup Information

The Wildcats lead the all-time series against Ohio, 5-2-0. Northwestern has won all three games played in Evanston.
This is the first matchup between the two teams since 2015. The Wildcats won the last game 4-2 in Athens.
