IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Wildcats are on the road again and set to take on the No. 12 Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City on Wednesday evening. Tip-off between the two teams is set for 6:30 p.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Northwestern (6-9, 0-5) will face their second consecutive top-15 opponent after they fell 50-72 to the No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Wednesday's meeting between the 'Cats and the Hawkeyes (12-4, 4-1) will be their first in Iowa City since last January, when Northwestern upset then-No. 22 Iowa 77-69.
Caileigh Walsh will enter the game as the 'Cats' leading scorer after averaging 12.0 points per game through the first 15 contests. The sophomore fell just shy of her second double-double of the season last time out against Indiana, but tied her career high with 11 rebounds against the Hoosiers.
Jasmine McWilliams has also been stepping up for Northwestern after slotting into the starting lineup in December. She logged her second career double-digit scoring performance against Indiana and drained two three-point shots to tie her career high with ten points.
On the defensive end, Northwestern will head into the matchup leading all Big Ten teams in blocks per game, with 5.71. Walsh leads the team with 20 blocks, while Sydney Wood has contributed 15. Jillian Brown has also been in on the action, blocking two shots in three of her last five games.
The 'Cats' defense will face a tough task in the Hawkeyes and Caitlin Clark, who leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the NCAA after averaging 27.2 points per game so far this season. Behind Clark, Iowa ranks seventh in the country in scoring offense, working at an 86.6 points-per-game clip.
After departing Iowa City, the 'Cats will return home to Welsh-Ryan Arena and host the Purdue Boilermakers. Tip off between the two teams is set for 2 p.m.
