STORYLINES
» Northwestern enters the weekend at 9-1 overall, tied for the most wins in the country and second place in win percentage. The Wildcats' .900 win percentage through the first 10 games of the season is tied with the 1984 team for the second best mark in program history, behind only the 1985 squad's perfect 10-0 start. Northwestern has outscored its opponents 34-10 over those 10 games, winning by 2.4 goals per game on average.
» Fifth-year forward Bente Baekers, who has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week three out of five weeks this season, became the second Wildcat to ever reach 75 career goals with her first of two goals against Richmond last Sunday. Baekers currently ranks second in Northwestern history and sixth in Big Ten history in career goals, and she needs just three goals to pass Ohio State's Britta Eickhoff for fifth in conference history. The three-time All-American currently leads the nation in goals, goals per game, points and points per game.
» Eight of Northwestern's 10 opponents this season have been ranked, including three in the top 10. With this weekends games against No. 6 Penn State and No. 4 Maryland this weekend, five of the eight opponents remaining on Northwestern's regular season were ranked in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll.
» Junior Goalkeeper Annabel Skubisz earned her fourth shutout of the season in the 5-0 win over Richmond last Sunday, tied for the fourth most in the country. It marked her 10th career shutout, making Skubisz the seventh player in Northwestern history to reach double-digit shutouts. Her 1.00 goals against average ranks seventh in the country.
» The Wildcats' back line, headlined by true first-year Maja Zivojnovic and graduate student Shannon Daley, held then-No. 5 Iowa to just three shots and no penalty corners last Friday. On the season, the Northwestern defense is limiting opponents to 7.7 shots per game while the offense has fired an average 21.3 shots per game.
» Friday's game with Penn State will mark the 43rd all-time meeting between the programs. It will be the second straight meeting in the series in which both teams are ranked in the top 10 after last year's game between then-No. 4 Northwestern and then-No. 8 Penn State went into double overtime.
» The matchup with Penn State will also be Northwestern's Mental Health Awareness Game.
NO. 4 MARYLAND (Sunday, October 2, Noon CT)
» Sunday's game with Maryland will mark the 30th all-time meeting between the programs. Northwestern has won the last three straight games against the Terrapins, including last year's 3-1 win on the road over then-No. 7 Maryland.
