With just over a minute left in regulation, Bente Baekers' shot off the penalty corner deflected off a Penn State defender right to Halsey. She fired home to pull Northwestern even with just 56 seconds on the clock.
Down to seven seconds left in the first overtime period, Baekers charged into the shooting circle and drew a Northwestern penalty stroke. Halsey stepped to the spot and found the bottom left corner for the golden goal.
Northwestern is now 2-0 in overtime games this season. The Wildcats have gone to overtime in each of their last four games with Penn State.

Baekers collected two goals herself earlier in the game, first putting Northwestern on the board in the 19th minute. The nation's leading scorer pushed her goal tally to 17 on the season with her second strike of the day in the 42nd minute. Baekers has now scored two or more goals in six of Northwestern's 11 games this season and has found the back of the net in all but two.
Lane Herbert assisted Baekers' first goal, her second straight game with an assist, while Alia Marshall and Ana Medina Garcia combined to set up Baekers' second off the penalty corner.
The win marked Northwestern's largest fourth quarter comeback since the 2020-21 season when the 'Cats erased a 2-0 deficit in the fourth quarter to win 3-2 in overtime.
Northwestern out shot Penn State 25-17 and held a 9-4 advantage on corners. The Wildcats have won the shots battle in every game this season, and they have won the penalty corner battle in 10 of 11 contests.
