EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern volleyball team makes its linear television debut and plays its first home match since August this week. The Wildcats will travel to No. 7 Minnesota at 8 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Sept. 28, for a match that will air on BTN. Sloane Martin (play-by-play) and Liz Nelson (analyst) have the call in Minneapolis. NU returns to Welsh-Ryan Arena for a 7 p.m. CT tilt on Saturday, Oct. 1, against Michigan.
 
Northwestern (11-3, 0-2 B1G) saw its four-match win streak snapped last weekend when it began Big Ten Conference play on the road, falling to No. 6 Wisconsin (3-0) and Illinois (3-0). Temi Thomas-Ailara led the way offensive for the Wildcats in both matches, logging 11 kills against Wisconsin and 16 at Illinois. First-year Kathryn Randorf posted a team-high .444 hitting percentage and totaled 16 combined kills over both matches.
 
'Cat Facts
  • Alexa Rousseau leads the Big Ten in total assists (490) and ranks fourth in assists per set (10.00). She recorded the Big Ten's only triple-double this season against DePaul (11 kills, 11 digs, 44 assists).
  • Northwestern's .286 hitting percentage is second in the Big Ten and 14th nationally.
  • The Wildcats are 1-2 this season against ranked opponents, defeating then-No. 24 Pepperdine, 3-0, on Sept. 9.
  • Thomas-Ailara's 1,235 career kills rank 14th in program history.
Minnesota has a 63-19 advantage in the all-time series against Northwestern, and have won 13 straight. The Wildcats last defeated the Golden Gophers 3-0 on Oct. 5, 2014 in Evanston. Northwestern last won in Minneapolis, 3-2, on Nov. 11, 2005. This year, the Gophers are 6-4 with a 1-1 mark in Big Ten action, falling on the road to No. 11 Purdue (3-0) and grabbing a home victory against No. 6 Wisconsin (3-0).
 
Michigan leads the all-time series against the Wildcats, 48-29. The Wolverines have won the last four matches, with Northwestern's last win occurring on Nov. 10, 2017, in Ann Arbor (3-2). Last Saturday, Michigan recorded just its sixth all-time win against Penn State, sweeping the No. 9 Nittany Lions in State College. The Wolverines (11-1, 2-0 B1G) play at Ohio State on Wednesday evening.
 
Northwestern plays the second of its back-to-back home matches at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 7 and then travels to Ohio State at Noon CT on Sunday, Oct. 9.
