EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head volleyball coach Tim Nollan announced the addition of Miranda Wucherer to the program's coaching staff as an assistant coach on Wednesday.
Wucherer comes to Evanston after spending the 2024 and 2025 seasons on staff at Northern Kentucky, her alma mater, where she was part of a Norse program that posted significant growth during her tenure.
During the 2025 season, Northern Kentucky captured its first-ever Horizon League regular season Championship and finished 22-9 overall with a 17-1 conference record. The Norse led the Horizon League in aces per set (1.61), blocks per set (2.32) and opponent hitting percentage (.177), while also ranking among the conference's top five teams in assists per set (12.33; 3rd), digs per set (16.12; 3rd), kills per set (13.22; 3rd) and hitting percentage (.220; 4th).
"I am extremely excited to welcome Miranda to our staff," Nollan said. "She has Big Ten playing and coaching experience, as well as helping develop Northern Kentucky into a conference winner. She is a great mentor for our student athletes and I can't wait to get her here and get started."
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Nollan and the Northwestern volleyball program and be part of such a strong academic and athletic environment," Wucherer said. "I believe in what this program is building and am excited about the atmosphere and potential that come with competing in the Big Ten. I can't wait to get to work alongside this staff and these student-athletes!"
Across Wucherer's two seasons on staff, Northern Kentucky posted year-over-year improvement in nearly every statistical category. From 2024 to 2025, the Norse increased their assists per set from 11.70 to 12.33 and their kills per set from 12.37 to 13.22, with both categories ranking third in the Horizon League during the 2025 season. NKU also made significant gains in aces per set (1.32 in 2024 to 1.61 in 2025), blocks per set (1.86 to 2.32) and team hitting percentage (.183 to .220), while lowering its opponent hitting percentage from .203 to .177.
During the 2025 season, Wucherer worked as the position coach for rookie setter Abby Pickard, who earned Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors and All-League First Team recognition. Pickard totaled 1,096 assists across 105 sets during the regular season, ranking 10th nationally and second among all freshmen, while also adding 253 digs, 49 blocks and 19 service aces.
Prior to her coaching career, Wucherer enjoyed a standout four-year playing career at Northern Kentucky, appearing in 102 matches and serving as a co-captain. She helped lead the Norse to the 2019 Horizon League Championship and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since transitioning to Division I. A setter by trade, she averaged 1.15 kills and 5.77 assists per set, earned All-Horizon League First Team honors in 2020-21 and was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2018.
During the spring 2020-21 season, Wucherer ranked fifth nationally in NCAA Division I volleyball with two triple-doubles, highlighted by a 16-kill, 28-assist, 13-dig performance against Cleveland State. She averaged nearly 2.5 digs and 0.5 blocks per set across her collegiate career.
Equally accomplished in the classroom, Wucherer was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team three times and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in both 2020-21 and 2021-22. She graduated from Northern Kentucky with a 4.0 GPA as a double major in finance and sports business and event management and served two years on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Following her time at NKU, Wucherer joined the University of Minnesota volleyball program for her graduate season. In addition to competing for the Golden Gophers, she served as a graduate manager, assisting the coaching staff in a variety of on-court and operational roles. She earned her master's degree in sports management during her time in Minneapolis.
Wucherer has also gained extensive experience in player development through work with numerous camps and clinics, including Keegan Cook Volleyball Camps, Hugh McCutcheon Volleyball Camp, Northern Kentucky Volleyball Camps, Northern Lights VBC, Milwaukee Sting VBC, and All-American Volleyball Camps, along with coaching experience at the high school level and most recently the Tri-State Elite volleyball club.
