Wildcats Earn Sweep over Pacific in Season Opener

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern volleyball team earned a three-set victory (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) over Pacific on Friday morning in the season-opener at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Temi Thomas-Ailara finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Wildcats offense, and nearly recorded a double-double with a team-high nine digs. First-year Kennedy Hill tallied a match-best seven blocks in her first collegiate appearance.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-20. Northwestern grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Wildcats took over in the second half of the stanza. Northwestern also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Northwestern built on a set-one win by earning a 25-18 victory in the second set. The Wildcats grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that showcased three lead changes before Northwestern took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Northwestern then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure a 25-17 victory. Northwestern ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. Northwestern's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Pacific attacks in the stanza.
Northwestern returns to action later tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT to battle UTEP.
